Studio L3 by Linda challenges us to do an "Alcohol Ink Resist" technique project, from page 59 of Tim Holtz's A Compendium of Curiosities Vol II. The Simon Says Stamp and Show project this week is called Leaf-spiration, so I have decided to do a single tag to enter both challenges.

I used "Autumn Gatherings" from Tim Holtz's Alterations. I cut the branches and the leaves out of various coloured papers of Kraft-Coordinations paper by Tim Holtz, which I sanded down with sand paper.

I finished the tag off by attaching a ticket with the word "ADORE" on it using a miniature bulldog clip. I inserted brads into the corners of the tag and dyed a ribbon for the top.Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10787933916646860126noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3612144720504269680.post-56707361806545253032012-09-30T22:02:00.000+01:002012-09-30T22:02:23.946+01:00Simon Says Stamp and Show: For the Love of Sparkle

This tag was made from the Autumn Gatherings by Tim Holtz Alterations. fisrt I distressed the background with distress inks, then I cut out the garland several times in different papers and distressed them.

I cut out the saying from a Tim Holtz stamp and distressed the edges.

The glitter on the branches was made by Tim Holtz Distress Stickles (Rock Candy). I dyed a ribbon in distress stain Forest Moss. I would like to enter this tag into Simon Says Stamp and Show: For the Love of Sparkle

Unfortunately, shortly after completion, this tag fell off the easel onto the floor when I shut the living room door, where it was devoured by my craft loving dogs...

I only had my journal with me this weekend so I decided to do this mask and stencils challenge. I painted the background with yellow, blue, orange and a little bit of turquiose acylic paint. I stenciled on some dots, letters and numbers and then I covered it with diamonds and circles in gesso.

For this challenge I re-used a canvas board which was brown with a stamp on it. I layered it with four types of Tim Holtz's tissue paper to partly cover over the previous stamping. I then covered the tissue paper with distress inks. The next stage consisted of producing three Tim Holtz rosettes of varying sizes. The rosettes were made using Tim Holtz paper.

I stamped the word "AUTUMN" because the project had an autumnal feel.
I made some leaves out of Tim Holtz's packaging (see Compendium of Curiosities II), I dyed them with alcohol ink and heated them up to give them a 3D shape. The leaves and the rosettes were attached using a hot glue gun.

I am entering this project into Simon says Stamp and Show- Tape it Up challenge.

Having bought the Tim Holtz's border from a show in May this was my first time I have used it in a project. I coloured the sewing room border with gold and silver dabber and then distressed it with walnut ink and barned door then wrapped some cord around the cotton reel.

I decided to use Kraft Resist paper and I coloured it in with distress stain, broken china. I cut out the dress former with my Vagabond and then cut another layer out of sticky backed canvas. I distressed the body of the canvas with vintage photo.

I hope you can see the Kraft Resist paper in the above image. There was a saying that I had "Sewing mends the Soul" and I placed it on some Kraft paper and distressed it around the edges with vintage photo.

Hope you like my entry into the Simon Says Stamp and Show "Read All About It" challenge sponsored by the Simon Says shop. I was away at my caravan where my stash is rather limited so I decided to use my Card-io stamps, Floral Wreath. I stamped the card with Floral Wreath and in a magazine I found the words "A Place To Be". I mounted the words on green paper and glued them into the centre of the card. I backed the card with some pink paper and then gold.

This challenge inspired me to use 3 colours from the Summer collection of Distress inks: mowed lawn, salty sea and pickled raspberry. I started with a background of mowed lawn which I sprinkled water on. I cut out the hearts and coloured them in with distress ink pickled raspberry and added a strip of Tim Holtz's music tape. I used black archival ink for the saying.
I cut the swirls and coloured them in with distress ink salty ocean.
This project was created for Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 19 . I have used techniques 1 and 6.
Out of curiosity is anyone having problems uploading their photos to their blog. My husband has had to use HTML to upload the photos for my last two projects. I'd be interested to see if anyone has any advice for me.Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10787933916646860126noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3612144720504269680.post-45558901133513091402012-08-26T18:43:00.000+01:002012-08-26T18:43:33.470+01:00Graphic 45 - Olde Curiosity Shoppe - Booklet

As promised in my last post, I have made the booklet for the Olde Curiosity Shoppe August 19th 2012. My booklet has been made from The Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers bound together by the Bind-It-All technique.

I saw a Recessed Frame Chipboard Book Box on the Calico Crafts website and I decided to make an Olde Curiosity Shoppe from Graphic 45 paper.

I painted the spine of the book with distress stains, vintage photo and walnut stains which gave it a vintage appearance. I cut out the title of the book "Olde Curiosity Shoppe" from 12"x12" paper, the other words came from the 8"x8" pad "Optical Oddities"

When thought of this Simon Says Stamp and Show - Paint it up challenge I only thought of the colours I might use. In the end I chose yellow, pink and orange paint and blended them altogether, and I put gesso through a stencil of flowers. I chose Wendy Vichi stamps for the saying and the face and I coloured them in with Distress pens by painting the colours onto a craft sheet and using water on the TH brushes to colour the stamps in..

I used Distress inks, antique linen, worn lipstick and tumble glass. The photos don't show up the antique linin very well but then after all this is a craft blog and not a photographic blog!!

I was very pleased with the effect the technique produced on my my canvas board.

This is my version of Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2012 - August. If you want to see the full instructions you can find them on his website. I didn't have the stamps Tim used as they don't appear to be available in the UK but I used one of his Texture Fades. I coloured it in with distress inks, leaving the centre free for a silhouette of my own. For the lower edge I used On The Edge - scallops.

I put the words "memories we cherish" as a sentiment. I dyed ribbon in distressed stain, fired brick and attached it with a wired pin from which I hung a decorative key.

On the bottom half of the tag I made flowers and leaves out of his Bigz Die, pine cone and leaves in purple, red and yellow Kraft-Core paper.
Although I didn,t have the items Tim used to create the tag I'm pleased with it because it shows off my silhouette.
Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10787933916646860126noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3612144720504269680.post-59355616079954121542012-07-26T17:24:00.000+01:002012-07-26T17:24:05.568+01:00Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 14

One of the designers Suzz did a family gathering of wooden spoons to make the place settings so I was inspired to do wooden spoons of my own. I e-mailed for permission to use them in the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge and Hel's Sunday Stamper. I had great fun in making them.
I started by giving a covering coat of distress stains in blue red green and yellow. When this was dry I gave another coat of distress stain in picket fence to mute the colours.. Then I stamped the handles and edges of the spoons using Tim Holtz's stamps. I made them look grungy by using vintage photo distress ink.
The top part of the tag is shown here in more detail. I didn't have a compressed air can so I just used a straw which I blew air down.

I tried a technque that I saw in the Craft Stamper last year using a toy - Squirt and Spin Painter ( by Chad Valley) and it produces the effect above.
..... but it didn't show the stamping on top of the silver so I changed my mind and did the one at top of this blog. I am entering this tag into Hels Sunday Stampers - Week 213 - Dreamer ChallengeCarolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10787933916646860126noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3612144720504269680.post-79214953101082651972012-07-04T13:05:00.001+01:002012-07-04T13:05:35.323+01:00A Compendium Of Curiosities Volume 2Linda from Studio L3 says Compendium of Curiosities Special Edition: Challenges 11 and 12! I have cheated a bit because I have already made 2 configurations which I am putting up here. The technique comes from Tim Hotz's book Compendium of Curiosities Vol II pages 33 and 34.

This is the first one I made for my daughter at university so she could feel she had something to celebrate Christmas with. I gave it to her a few weeks early for her birthday which is also in December. I used a Christmas ornament that I had bought, a Christmas candle light, buttons and a little tree. I felt this created a very Christmasy configuration.
In this photograph the top row shows my love of sewing and patchwork and quilting. Next represents my interest in photograpghy with a framed picture of me at the age of 10 years. The bottom row on the left show my love of knitting (the one hobby my daughter has inhereted from me - and she is much better than me!) and the years I spent with my knitting machine making my children some unique jumpers. In the middle is a clock which represents my making decoupage clocks. Finally the last box represents my hobby of jewellry making.

I hope you enjoy looking through my configurations and my hobbies.
Half a year is already gone! I never kept a diary in all my life so that is achievement! Well here is my July page. I covered the acrylic paint using a credit card in yellow, turquiose and orange, then I applied collage over parts of it. When this was dry I cut out offset squares from my CriCut machine.

I bought this Tim Holz Bigz Die "Vintage globe" at a show and made the globe soon after but I put it aside until I had a project to put it in. I put some distress embossing ink on the holder of the globe and put some brushed cordroy embossing powder and heated it up. I then sanded the embossed area to make it look more distressed. As you can see in the picture below.

One of Tim Holtz's papers has a map so I cut to size and embossed with vintage photo distress around the edges. I made a pocket with his paper and distressed it and stamped the saying on it.

These are all the things I put in the pocket starting with Tim Holtz Ticket Strip which I stamped and then I distressed it with vintage photo. I cut up the Film Strip out of Kraft-core paper which I then sanded to make it look more distressed. The pictures I put inside it were from Tim Holtz's papers and I also used two bingo cards. I wish to put it into Sunday Stamper and Simon Says Stamp and Show Distress.

See Tim's instructions on his blog. I have one photograph of myself when I was about six months old but so I chose to use a 1/2 number to represent half a year . I chose a different colour scheme for the tag using distress stains in dusty concord and picket fence and then I marbleised the tag. I stamped the tag with a Clear Stamp - "Lost and Found" in archival ink- coffee.

I used distress ink milled lavender for the cardigan and spun sugar for the skirt using Cut-n-Dry pen nibs. It doesn't show up very well on the photo but it is better in real life!

I finished the background of the tag with some memory tape, a film strip, a swivelclasp and dyed the ribbon with sugar sun disteess stain. The muse token I chose says "Unique" because I think I am a unique individual.

When I glued the pen nibs on I put a caption on the tag. I enjoyed colouring the photo in and I thought photo came to life. Another great idea from Tim.

I made this card for my Mum to cheer her up before she went into hospital . In the past she had told me she had always wanted an old dress form so I put one in a card. The background was made from the new Spring Distrees Inks using Peacock feathers and Squeezed lemonade and then I stamped my new favourite stamp Tim Holtz X1-1097. I used my favourite Bigz Die "Sewing Room", I seem to have used it alot!!!!

I apologise as it seems a bit of out focus. Anyway it seemed she was grateful for it. Inside the card I stamped " Cheer you up". I forgot to take a picture of the card but she said I could borrow it back to take a picture of it and post it.
Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10787933916646860126noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3612144720504269680.post-20311765334071659772012-06-12T21:59:00.003+01:002012-06-12T21:59:53.466+01:00Sunday Stamper - Week 209 - Pretty In Pink and Simon Says Stamp and Show - Anything Goes!

Sunday Stamper by Hels theme is PINK so I went to work on a canvas 10"x12" and I painted it with Adirondack acrylic paint dabber in Shell Pink. I stamped the canvas using Tim Holtz's Mixed Media with distress ink spun sugar. I used Portobello Road embossing folder in the shape of a Union Jack and then embossed various colours of pink Tim Holtz's papers to lay on top of it. I think this gave a lovely effect.

On Hels blog she decided to make the theme red, white and blue. I made this on Thursday but I only got round to putting it up today. I did the background of the tag in Distress Ink - weathered wood and stormy sky. I used the cutter around the edge and put distress stain picket fence and around the edge I used distress ink vintage photo. For the ribbon I used Distress stain weathered wood.

For the Tim Holtz balloon I stamped it out 3 times with Ranger Archival ink in black. The first one I cut out in full leaving the balloon white. In the 2nd one I cut out the blue section and used my Distress pen to colour it in blue. For 3rd one I cut out the center section and coloured it in with a barn door pen. Once the 3 sections were done I stuck them together using sticky foam pads to give it a 3D effect.

I tried out using the distress pens but the paper I used wasn't suitable but I suppose it would have given a better effect if I had used distress inks.
To make the saying I cut out words I had stamped from Tim Holtz's Stuff to Say stamp.

I stamped a ticket out from Tim Holtz's Odds and Ends stamp collection and attached it to the tag using a mini paper-clip. I know it isn't very regal but I thought by Thursday that the Jubilee celebrations were over so I just stuck to the red, white and blue theme.

I read an article in the Somerset Studio (Sep/Oct 2011) magazine on Texture by Christy Tomlinson and it inspired me to make this canvas board. I first covered it in collage with in all sorts of paper, then a thin layer of gesso. On top of this I put stamping of different colours using Tim Holtz stamps, bottle tops and bubble wrap. I did a bird cage using a metal template and texture paste and when it dried I coloured it in with an ink pad.
