12 tags of 2012 - May by Tim Holtz

MAY 2012

This is my contribution to 12 Tags of 2012 by Tim Holtz. You can go on the linked site and see his instructions to make the tag.

I used Rangers  Adirondack  Eggplant for the background stamp on the tissue paper.

I found that I had some little flowers which I distressed with Spring distress colours. I then enameled the flowers by dragging them through hot melted utee using the back of the melting pot. I didn't have a spool to put them in so I used the stamp from Tim Holtz's Haberdashery "packet of needles".

Instead of using a key charm like Tim I used a flattened bottle top and cut out a circle from Tim Holtz ATC cards with the head of the lady from the pattern in the sewing room.

I always send something to my daughter who is living in London doing a Masters degree but she requested that I don't put them up my blog before she has received them. We have had a lovely holiday  during the recent hot weather, it has been so relaxing but now we're home and  I have got the blog up. So if your interested in what other bloggers are doing go to Tim Holtz site.

Simon Says Stamp and Show ... A Summer Holiday!

A Trip to the Beach

I started my background with a bubble technique shown on a previous blog. I outlined the tag with distress ink tumbled glass. I had a pack of Little Shells by Hero Arts from 2002 which I glued onto the lower part of the tag. I stamped the shells with Ranger archival ink (jet black) and used distress inks ( scattered straw and tea dye). Some of the shells are mounted on foam to create some depth.

I stamped a bucket by Judith M-27 from Stamp Addicts in distress ink festive berries and used a bit of netting to represent a fisherman's net and the words " Sea" and  "Sand" out of Scrabble letters. I put a brad that looks like the Sun in the top right hand corner. Finally I dyed a ribbon using ditress stain broken china.

This project reminds me of all the times we took our three children to the sea side with their buckets and spades, happy times!

This project is for Simon Says Stamp and Show ... A Summer Holiday!

Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 5! Simon Says Stamp and Show ... Anything Goes!

This weeks Studio L3  challenges us to do a project "Shattered Stains" from Tim Holtz's A Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 2, page 48, sponsored by Simon Says Stamp.  I have done a canvas with "Shattered Stains" butterflies and twig and leaf from Tim Holtz's magnetic dies.
I am also submitting this project to Simon Says Stamp and Simon Show
I used grungeboard, distressed crackle paint and distress stains to do the Shattered Stains.

I used a canvas 8" x 8" with  papers from Tim Holtz. The central section I stamped with the words "Love Wish Dream" from Tim Holtz's "Stuff to Say". On the blue section I mounted all the "Shattered Stains" items and on the outer section I used pink again.  I used distress inks broken china and victorian velvet to distress the edges of the papers. Finally I used Tim Holtz's idea-ology corners to complete the canvas.

Sunday Stamper - Week 204 - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue

Something different than usual, I made a necklace out of Tim Holtz's Idea-ology "Fragment Charms" for Sunday Stamper - Week 204 - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. Firstly I stamped out a face stamp from Stampers Anonymous Studio 490 "Its Face Art" on white card. I used distress inks tea dye and tumbled glass to colour in the face with my blender tool and then I got a fragment charm of the appropriate size and put glossy accents around the edge of the fragment charm and stuck the stamped image to it. When it was dry I trimmed excess card off and completed it with a jump ring and ball chain.

This was a quick project but it certainly makes my brown eyes blue.

Simon Says Stamp and Show your Favourite Stamp!

Simon Says Stamp and Show your Favourite Stamp! My favourite stamp is one I recently got from a draw prize from Simon Says Stamp and Show.

I have always wanted to get this stamp but it wasn't available in the UK, so that was my first stamp I chose with my $50 prize. It is a Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz stamp "X1-1097". I started making the tag with marbleized colours of distress stains, fire brick, sponge sugar and antique linin. On this I stamped my stamp in black archival ink.

I used my Bigz die "Sewing Room" and put it through my Vagabond. I used honey comb paper to cover the bodice.

I finished it off with some Tim Holtz's Idea-ology buttons. The ribbon I bought at Christmas and has wire in it to keep it in a nice shape.  So this is my favourite stamp because over the years I have made lots of clothes for myself, my husband and my children along with dressing up clothes for the children.

Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 4!

Singing in the Rain

Today I am doing a challenge set by Linda from Studio L3. It is from page 43 of Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities 2, Faded Layers.

I used the above distress inks, stormy sky, weathered wood, iced spruce and evergreen bough. I used Tim Holtz's Alterations Bigz Die Umbrella Man. I used Stampers Anonymous U5-1093 stamp, for the rain.

I used the musical brads to represent the music and a  musical slide holder.

Tim Holtz's tissue wrap gathered up at the bottom to carry on with the musical theme. Finally I used distress ink chipped sapphire to go around the edges. You will have to buy Tim Holtz's book to find out the details!!!

Kate Crane's 366 Day Challenge

May is here, how the time flies. In my A5 journalling diary I did a similar page (the image below) using the same colours of lime green, pink and yellow acylic paints, but this time a was able to produce a different appearance by not using white.

This is a picture of my May page before I added any elements to it.

I stamped the page with Tim Holtz's Stampers Anonymous School Desk in Archival Ink. I used a Craft Creations template for the diamonds in gesso and then using my Cricut machine I cut out diamonds from black paper but it all seemed overpowered by the black diamonds so I redid it using diamond borders. This looked much better allowing the background to show inside the diamonds, giving the page a lighter feel.

The above picture shows the stamping from the School Desk set, the black diamonds, the Alphabet Stamps from my stash to spell the word MAY and the Penny Black stamp of the flower.

Below is my completed April page. The year is really moving on. I love doing this journal, I have never kept a diary before and I hope to keep it going for the whole year.

A Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 3

This is my entry into A Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 3, using methods from Marbled Stains page 46 in Tim Holtz's A Compendium of Curiosities 2 sponsored by Eclectic Paperie.  I made 3 tags of Marbled Stains when I was doing Tim Holtz's online course Creative Chemistry 101 but I couldn't find them so I had to make a new one for this challenge!

These are the ingredients that I used but the method is in Tim's book so you'll just have to buy it I'm afraid.

You can see the marbling on the above picture. It produces a lovely effect.

The stamps are Flights of Fancy from the Tim Holtz Colletion using Ranger's Archival Ink, jet black.

I used an Adage Ticket from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology which I stapled to the tag using his mini attacher and finally I dyed a ribbon using Distressed Stain, peeled paint.
